This past weekend, the Louisiana High School Athletic Association held its state softball tournament in Sulphur.
Due to inclement weather on Friday, nine of the 10 championship games were pushed back to Sunday, with the other played on Saturday.
Here is a list of several of the top performances from the 10 title teams over the weekend.
- Kailyn Mire, Lake Charles Sam Houston Mire pitched a three-hitter in the Broncos’ 3-2 win against Dutchtown in the Division I Non-Select championship game. She also pitched all eight innings in a 5-3 semifinal win against St. Amant and forced extra innings by hitting a seventh-inning home run.
- Taelyn Droddy, Lake Charles Sam Houston Droddy hit the eventual game-winning single in the bottom of the sixth in the championship game, breaking a 2-all score.
- Kallie England, Lake Charles Sam Houston England ended the Broncos’ semifinal win by hitting a two-RBI home run in the bottom of the eighth.
- Kinsley Coleman, North DeSoto Coleman walked things off with a successful squeeze bunt single in the bottom of the seventh to drive in the winning run as the Griffins rallied to defeat Assumption, 6-5, to claim the Division II Non-Select championship.
- Maddy Stringer, North DeSoto Stringer went 3-for-4 with a double and a triple while driving in two runs in her team’s title-game win. She also went 2-for-3 with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored in the Griffins’ 9-2 win against Lutcher in the semifinals.
- Payton Miller, North DeSoto Miller went 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, two RBIs and a run scored in the Griffins’ semifinal win.
- Kylee Savant, Doyle Savant hit a double with the bases loaded in the fifth, scoring all three runs, which was the biggest hit in the Tigers’ 4-3 win against Jena for the Division III Non-Select title. She also went 2-for-3 with a homer and four RBIs as Doyle downed Kaplan, 13-3, in the semifinals.
- Shelby Taylor, Doyle Taylor was 3-for-4 with two triples and an RBI in the semifinals and then went 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored in the title game.
- Bella Collins, Doyle Collins was the winning pitcher in both the semifinal and championship game wins. She gave up four hits and struck out five in the semifinals; then gave up two earned runs on four hits in Sunday’s championship game, striking out five.
- Landry Long, LaSalle Long went all nine innings and gave up just one hit while striking out 17 in LaSalle’s 1-0 extra-inning win against Oak Grove in the Division IV Non-Select semifinals. Then in the title game, Long went 3-for-4, homered and drove in three runs as LaSalle won the championship against Logansport, 11-2.
- Kinley Morris, LaSalle Morris went 4-for-4 with a double, three RBIs and two runs scored in the Tigers’ title-game win.
- Mattie Parham, LaSalle Parham went 2-for-4, including the game-winning RBI double in the ninth inning in LaSalle’s semifinal win. She also went 3-for-4 with two RBIs as the Tigers went on to claim the title.
- Makayla Escude, John Curtis Christian Just a sophomore, Escude pitched a seven-inning four-hit shutout in the Patriots’ 2-0 win against St. Thomas More in the Division I Select championship game. She also struck out four.
- Kinsley McInnis, John Curtis Christian McInnis doubled and scored the game’s first run of Sunday’s title game, breaking a scoreless tie in the bottom of the sixth.
- Miley Percle, John Curtis Christian Percle went 3-for-3 with an RBI and a pair of runs scored in the Patriots’ 4-2 semifinal win against Archbishop Chapelle.
- Lexi Matherne, Vandebilt Catholic Matherne went 4-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in the Terriers’ 7-5 win against St. Charles in the Division II Select championship game.
- Kallie Waalk, Vandebilt Catholic Walk hit a go-ahead two-run single in the fourth inning of Sunday’s title-game win.
- Abby Aguillard, Vandebilt Catholic Aguillard hit a bases-loaded triple in the fifth to break a 1-all score in the Terriers’ 4-1 semifinal win against Buckeye.
- Kynzee Anderson, Calvary Baptist A pitcher, Anderson turned in two sterling performances as the Cavaliers won their fifth consecutive state championship. In the semifinals, she threw a four-hit shutout and struck out 13 in a 1-0 win against Parkview Baptist; then in the title game, Anderson tossed a four-inning no-hitter, striking out four as Calvary rolled past D’Arbonne Woods, 12-0, on Saturday in the Division III Select championship contest.
- Carlie Guile, Calvary Baptist Guile hit a first-inning homer, the only scoring in Calvary’s semifinal win. Then in the title game, she went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.
- Brynn Robinson, Calvary Baptist In the championship game, Robinson went 3-for-3 with a run scored.
- Kaylee Methvin, Holy Savior Menard Methvin was the winning pitcher in the Alexandria-based Eagles’ 4-1 win against Opelousas Catholic to claim the Division IV Select title. She also went all 11 innings in Menard’s 4-3 semifinal win against Catholic-Pointe Coupee, striking out four.
- Emma Davis, Holy Savior Menard Davis hit a two-run triple in the fifth that put the Eagles ahead to stay in the championship game. She also went 4-for-5 with three RBIs, and also stole home plate in the 11th inning to win the semifinal contest.
- Sawyer Shelton, Holy Savior Menard Shelton had two hits, including a double, in the semifinal win; then in the title game, went 2-for-4 and scored twice.
- Cali Deal, Quitman Deal pitched a combined 13 shutout innings in the Wolverines’ Class B semifinal and championship games. In a 4-0 semifinal win against Grace Christian, Deal gave up four hits and struck out 12; then in Sunday’s title game, she gave up two hits over six complete innings with nine strikeouts in Quitman’s 10-0 win against Stanley. She also hit a three-run homer in the first inning to start the scoring.
- Maggie Guyotte, Quitman Guyotte went 2-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the Wolverines’ championship game win.
- Hallie Kate Pullig, Quitman Pullig went 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the semifinal win; then hit a two-run triple during the championship game.
- Haley Martin, Calvin Martin was the winning pitcher in the Cougars’ 2-1 win against Claiborne Christian in the Class C title game. She gave up three hits and struck out 15.
- Alexa Collins, Calvin Collins had two hits in both semifinal and title game wins for Calvin. In the championship game, she went 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored.
- Gabby Edwards, Calvin Edwards homered and scored twice in the Cougars’ 6-5 win against Summerfield in the Class C semifinals.
