The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed veteran wide receiver Robert Woods to a one-year, $2 million deal amid ongoing uncertainties around their quarterback situation. Despite speculation about Aaron Rodgers and potential starting quarterbacks Will Howard, Skylar Thompson, or Mason Rudolph, the Steelers focused on strengthening their receiver lineup. Woods, a seasoned player with a Super Bowl experience with the Rams, brings leadership and depth to the Steelers' receiving corps, especially with trade rumors surrounding George Pickens. Though his recent performance has seen a decline, with only 20 receptions and no touchdowns in 2024, his previous seasons with the Rams showcased his potential with over 1,000 receiving yards. Woods' addition is strategic for the team as they navigate the offseason, offering both a veteran presence and insurance in their wide receiver options.

Steelers sign former Super Bowl-winning WR despite lingering QB questions

The Pittsburgh Steelers addressed their wide receiver needs by signing Robert Woods to a one-year contract valued at $2 million, while quarterback questions continue to loom over the team.

Robert Woods, drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, has had a storied career, including a significant stint with the Los Angeles Rams where he became part of a Super Bowl-winning team, although he didn't play in the Super Bowl due to injury.

Woods' career highlights include two 1,000-plus yard receiving seasons with the Rams in 2018 and 2019, demonstrating his capability as a top performer, despite a recent decline in production.

During the 2024 season, Woods had a modest performance with 20 catches for 203 yards and no touchdowns, yet his experience and leadership make him a valuable asset in the locker room.

The Steelers' decision to sign Woods comes amid trade rumors involving George Pickens, indicating a strategic move to bolster their receiver depth and maintain stability in light of potential roster changes.

The quarterback situation remains unresolved, with new draftee Will Howard and incumbents Skylar Thompson and Mason Rudolph as potential candidates, while Aaron Rodgers' potential signing adds to the uncertainty.

The Pittsburgh Steelers did take a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft - although it was not Shedeur Sanders. Instead, the Steelers drafted Ohio State QB Will Howard on Day 3 as the quarterback questions swirl even more.

Will Aaron Rodgers sign? Or will one of Howard, Skylar Thompson or Mason Rudolph be the QB1?

Well, the Steelers did make a roster move on Monday, although it was at the wide receiver position. The Steelers agreed to a one-year deal worth $2 million with veteran Robert Woods, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network

Woods was a second-round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2013 NFL Draft after a strong career with the USC Trojans. He then spent four seasons with the Bills before playing five years with the Los Angeles Rams, including being a part of the Super Bowl-winning squad, although he did not play in Super Bowl LVI due to an injury suffered earlier in the season.

Woods then spent the 2022 season with the Tennessee Titans before playing with the Houston Texans the last two years. In his career, Woods has two 1,000-plus yard seasons, both of which came with the Rams in 2018 and 2019.

In 2024, Woods caught just 20 passes for 203 yards with no scores, and he has just one touchdown combined over the last two seasons. Still, the veteran is an excellent locker-room presence and some insurance in the WR room, especially with trade rumors swirling regarding George Pickens.
