General Manager Dave Dombrowski has been selective in who he will hold onto or let go of — now he reportedly has just one rule going forward. 

According to a recent report by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Phillies will not entertain trades involving top prospects Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller.

“The Philadelphia Phillies, among other teams, already are keeping a close eye on Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, who will likely be dealt by the trade deadline. Yet, the Phillies are adamant they will not include top prospects Andrew Painter or Aidan Miller in any trade,” Nightengale wrote. 

Obviously, there would be some deals that could render trading the two prospects a possibility, but it would have to take quite the price for the Phillies to let go of their two young assets. 

Painter is the No. 7-ranked prospect in the sport, per MLB Pipeline. He’s also missed significant time rehabbing from Tommy John Surgery.

Miller is a shortstop who is expected to be a bit farther away from the big leagues. 

The Phillies are 14-13 and in second place in the National League East behind the 19-9 New York Mets. 

It’ll certainly be interesting to see what sacrifices the Phillies are willing to make in search of their next championship. Winning almost always comes with a cost, but it looks like that price won’t entail Miller or Painter for Philadelphia.
