The Denver Broncos utilized an extra draft pick from a trade with the Houston Texans to select Florida punter Jeremy Crenshaw in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, making him the first punter chosen this year. Crenshaw's selection comes after the loss of Riley Dixon to free agency, leaving the Broncos without a punter until they signed veteran Matt Haack. The team now plans a competition between Crenshaw, known for his powerful leg and experience from over 50 games with the Gators, and Haack, who has previously played under Broncos special teams coach Darren Rizzi. Standing at 6-foot-4 with a college average of 46.4 yards per punt, Crenshaw, originally from Australia, brings significant potential despite needing improvement in hang time. The Broncos' draft strategy also included picks like Alabama edge rusher Que Robinson, highlighting their focus on strengthening specific positions in the team lineup.

NFL Draft 2025: Broncos take the first punter off the board in sixth round

The Denver Broncos selected Jeremy Crenshaw, a punter from Florida, in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft after acquiring an extra pick through a trade with the Houston Texans, marking him as the first punter drafted this year.

Following the departure of Riley Dixon in free agency, the Broncos were left without a punter on their roster, prompting them to sign veteran Matt Haack and draft Crenshaw to instigate a competitive battle for the punter position.

Jeremy Crenshaw, boasting a height of 6-foot-4, has an impressive college career with an average of 46.4 yards per punt over 190 kicks in more than 50 games, and he hails from Australia, a country known for producing NFL punters.

Matt Haack, who has previously played under Broncos special teams coach Darren Rizzi, brings experience to the punter's competition, while Crenshaw offers a younger, potentially more powerful leg despite needing improvements in hang time.

The Broncos' draft strategy reflects a focus on enhancing their special teams and defensive capabilities, as evidenced by their selection of edge rushers Que Robinson and Sai'vion Jones in earlier rounds.

NFL.com scout Lance Zierlein describes Crenshaw as a punter with good power and a quick delivery, though he highlights the need for better hang time to enhance net average effectiveness against NFL returners.

Travis Wakeman, an experienced NFL reporter, has covered the Broncos extensively and highlights the strategic decisions made by the team during the draft as they prepare for upcoming seasons.

The Denver Broncos, armed with an extra draft pick after an earlier trade with the Houston Texans, have selected Florida punter Jeremy Crenshaw.

Crenshaw was the first punter off the board in this draft and he may be the only one. After losing Riley Dixon in free agency, the Broncos were left without a punter on their roster. They signed veteran Matt Haack and have now brought in Crenshaw for a good old-fashioned punter's battle this summer.

Haack has the benefit of having played under Broncos special teams coach Darren Rizzi while the two were with the Miami Dolphins but Crenshaw will have the younger leg, making for an interesting battle.

Crenshaw is a big punter at 6-foot-4 and he's an experienced one, having kicked in over 50 games for the Gators. He had a career average of 46.4 yards per punt on 190 kicks in college.

Born in Australia, a place that has produced several NFL punters, Crenshaw spent four years at Florida as their punter. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com had this to say about him in his scouting profile:

"A four-year punter for the Gators, Crawshaw flashes good power from a quick delivery but will need to improve his hang time to keep NFL returners from chopping at his net average. He can be highly effective when he’s protected, with touch punts placing opponents near or inside their own 10-yard line."
