The New York Mets dominated the Washington Nationals with a staggering 19-5 victory, largely powered by Brandon Nimmo's exceptional performance. Nimmo, who had been struggling with a .192 average, delivered a career-defining game with two home runs and nine RBIs. Despite this triumph, Nimmo faced a setback the following day, missing the lineup due to flu-like symptoms and receiving IV fluids for fever and weakness. Mets' staff expressed hope that he might still play off the bench, depending on his condition. His illness dampened the afterglow of his previous night's achievement, highlighting the unpredictability of sports performances.

Brandon Nimmo led the Mets to a decisive win against the Nationals, going 4-for-6 with nine RBIs, including two home runs, marking a significant turnaround from his previous performance statistics.

Before this game, Nimmo had a low batting average of .192, with only 12 RBIs and four home runs, making his explosive game against the Nationals a surprising and pivotal moment in his season.

The Mets scored a total of 19 runs, with 16 of those coming after the fifth inning, showcasing their offensive power late in the game with consecutive four-run innings.

Nimmo's absence from the lineup the following day was due to flu-like symptoms, including fever and weakness, necessitating IV fluids to aid his recovery.

Despite his illness, there was cautious optimism from the Mets' management about his potential availability off the bench, contingent on his recovery throughout the day.

The New York Mets crushed the Washington Nationals on Monday night, 19-5, in DC. The Mets scored just three runs in the first five innings, but they followed that up with 16 runs from the sixth to the ninth inning, including back-t-back four-run innings to finish the game.

The star of the day was Brandon Nimmo, who went 4-for-6 with nine RBI, a pair of home runs and four runs scored in a massive breakout performance.

Prior to Monday's game, Nimmo had just 12 RBI and four home runs with a .192 batting average, so it was a shocking turn of events.

Unfortunately, Tuesday was much different for Nimmo as he was absent from the lineup due to an illness. He even received IV fluids prior to the game, per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com

"Brandon Nimmo is sick today with flu-like symptoms including fever and weakness, which is why he's out of the Mets' lineup. "He's in rough shape right now," Carlos Mendoza said earlier today. Nimmo received IV fluids, however, and has a chance to be available off the bench."

While that's an unfortunate flip for Nimmo, Mendoza said he could be available depending on how he feels throughout the game. Still, a 9-RBI, 2-HR game followed by a sickness is not what anybody wants.
