LSU Tigers football coach Brian Kelly sees the writing on the wall.

The SEC may not be falling behind in college football dominance, but its conference foe counterpart, the Big Ten, the recent history category is undoubtedly in its favor.

Having won the last two national titles, the Big Ten remains on top. It's a place the SEC had been for over a decade, and with the ever-changing world of college football, Kelly, too, would like to see an innovation.

"We want to play Big Ten schools,” Kelly said, per Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger at the SEC's spring meetings.

Easier said than done, but Kelly broke down why adding a Big Ten game could do wonders for the SEC moving forward.

“Look, the Big Ten right now holds it on the SEC,” Kelly said. "They’ve won the last two national championships. OK, that’s the reality of it. We want to get challenged in that regard, and we’d like to be able to get that done.”

According to SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, no rash decisions have been made in internal discussions with Big Ten commissioner Tony Pettiti. But Sankey said he wants to keep the dialogue afloat, he told Paul Finebaum.

“Rooms of 60 don’t solve problems, though," Sankey said.  "I think even rooms of 34 don’t solve problems. So the smaller group conversations are helpful. That doesn’t mean we see the world exactly the same, but we can have an open dialogue. Tony and I talked last night and I said, ‘Hey, we had a conversation with our football coaches that went different around the CFP format than I would have predicted.’ Tony texted me when he finished an athletic directors call. I will say, I think one of the hard parts about formulating ideas and making decisions is the number of leaks that come out.”

As college football keeps adapting, so do the important decision-makers who decide the fate of the sport's future.

Nevertheless, it is clear there is more work to be done, and maybe, Kelly will get his wish.
