Kyle Snyder arrest: Olympic champion, former Ohio State wrestler involved in prostitution sting in Columbus

Kyle Snyder, an Olympic gold medalist and former Ohio State wrestler, was arrested on Monday as part of a prostitution ring in Columbus, WBNS in Columbus reports.

According to the police, 16 men in total were arrested as part of the undercover operation.

Snyder wrestled collegiately at Ohio State from 2016 to 2018, in addition to competing at the last Olympics for the United States.

Kyle Snyder arrest

Snyder was arrested on Monday, May 12, as part of a prostitution ring sting operation in Columbus, Ohio. 

According to Columbus police, the Police and Community Together unit conducted an undercover operation to try and reduce prostitution in the city.

On May 9, a man responded to an ad via texts and phone calls, then set up a meeting at a hotel. Not long after, Snyder arrived at the hotel and paid cash to the undercover officers in exchange of sexual acts.

Uniformed officers arrested Snyder on site for "engaging in prostitution" in the hotel. He has since been released from custody, but is scheduled to appear in court on May 19th.

Kyle Snyder Olympics career

Snyder has competed in the last three Olympic Games, winning gold at the 2016 Olympics in the 97 kilogram division, becoming the youngest American wrestler to win gold at the Olympics. Since then, he earned a silver medal in the 2020 Olympics and had a fifth-place finish in 2024.

Besides the Olympics, Snyder won the World Championships three teams, doing so in 2015, 2017 and 2022, and he earned two silver medals and two bronze medals in the World Championships since 2015.

He is also a seven-time Pan American Champion.

While attending Ohio State, Snyder is a three-time NCAA champion, winning the 285-lb division three-straight years from 2016 to 2018. He finished his collegiate career with a 75-5 record in four seasons, and he won 35-straight matches between the start of the 2016 season and the middle of the 2018 year, finishing his career having won 45 of his final 49 wrestling matches.
