Knicks reportedly set to interview two head coaches amid drama

The New York Knicks' search for a new head coach after firing Tom Thibodeau entered some dark moments over the past week. It was starting to look like the Knicks fired their coach without a plan, as they were repeatedly denied permission to interview other bench bosses around the league. With things looking dim, James L. Edwards III, via The Athletic, reported that they've found two candidates to interview next week.

New York had to go the route of interviewing coaches who don't currently have jobs, as no other teams would permit them to do so. They will interview former Memphis Grizzlies coach Taylor Jenkins and former Sacramento Kings coach Mike Brown next week, according to league sources.

The move to interview the two former head coaches doesn't mean that they've narrowed it down to the two. While the Knicks were previously denied access to Billy Donovan and Jason Kidd, they could inquire again in hopes that the Dallas Mavericks and Chicago Bulls will change their minds.

Edwards III notes that both head coaches are seeking contract extensions from their organizations, and if they don't receive them as the offseason progresses, it may lead to a mutual split.

Brown could be the coach that the Knicks are most interested in, as he turned the Kings into a contender in the Western Conference after a successful 11-year tenure. The Kings' firing of Brown this past season was a bit surprising, considering the Kings had consecutive 45-win seasons for the first time since 2006.
