Knicks get unfortunate report on desired Tom Thibodeau replacement
The New York Knicks shocked the basketball world when they fired Tom Thibodeau, and finding his replacement could take some time.
This season, the Knicks made a surprise run to the Eastern Conference Finals, knocking off the defending champion Boston Celtics before finishing two games away from the NBA Finals. Despite losing to the Indiana Pacers in six games, this season was seen as an undeniable success, but it wasn’t enough for New York to be satisfied.
In firing Thibodeau, the Knicks showed that they are ready to compete for an NBA title through any means necessary. After blockbuster trades landed Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges last offseason, it appears this offseason will be dominated by the Knicks’ coaching search.
Unsurprisingly, the Knicks already had their eye on someone ahead of firing Thibodeau. The Knicks have reportedly been intrigued by Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.
With Kidd still under contract in Dallas, getting him to New York was never going to be an easy task, and a recent report from The Athletic might make that move seem impossible. On Monday, James L. Edwards III broke down the Knicks’ coaching search and their interest in Kidd.
Edwards wrote that the Knicks had yet to request to speak with Kidd and that the expectation is for Dallas to deny any request.

With Kidd seemingly off the table, the Knicks might soon have to switch their focus to other names, such as Michael Malone or Mike Brown. While there is no shortage of potential candidates for New York’s opening, the Knicks look unlikely to land their top choice.
