Wyett Ekeler was a running back and linebacker in high school, but he changed positions to safety in college to better fit his skillset. According to 247 Sports, Ekeler was a three-star running back out of high school when he committed to Wyoming.

In 2019, before Wyett began his college career, Austin explained why the two were so close.
