Is Caitlin Clark playing today? Latest news on Fever star's status for game vs. Liberty

Coming out of the All-Star break, WNBA teams are hoping to improve their chances of making a playoff run. For the Fever, however, they are once again dealing with an injury to their best player.

Caitlin Clark ended the first half dealing with another injury to her groin, the second time she has suffered a lower-body injury this year. That forced her to miss the All-Star weekend this year, despite her being one of the two team captains for the All-Star break.

Indiana returns to action on Tuesday night against the Liberty, the team with the best record in the Eastern Conference. Here's the latest on Clark's status ahead of that matchup.

Is Caitlin Clark playing today?

Caitlin Clark will miss Tuesday's game against the Liberty as she continues to nurse her groin injury.

Clark suffered the injury in the Fever's game last week against Sun, which was the team's second-to-last contest before hosting All-Star weekend. Clark has had an injury-riddled sophomore season, as this groin injury is the latest ailment to force her to miss time.

Fever head coach Stephanie White spoke with the media on Sunday and said that she would be surprised if the star point guard playing on Tuesday night, which came before Clark was officially ruled out on Monday. Clark already missed one game since suffering the injury, as she didn't play against New York in Indiana's final game before the All-Star break last Wednesday.

Additionally, Clark missed the entire All-Star weekend due to the injury, including Friday night's three-point contest and Saturday night's All-Star game in which she was a captain.

Clark is approaching her latest setback with an optimistic mindset.

"When the injury happened, it was pretty frustrating, considering I knew what the coming days were gonna hold for myself," Clark said over the weekend. "But I feel like dealing with that, and then also just like trying to look at it in the most positive manner that I can. ... I think just it all comes back to having a good perspective on everything."

What is Caitlin Clark's injury?

Clark suffered a right groin strain against the Sun last week, her second groin injury of the season. Earlier in the year, Clark missed five games with a left groin injury, which was her first extended period of missed time since entering the WNBA.

It is unclear how long Clark will miss, as she is still consulting with doctors to determine a timeline for her return. Her previous injury cost her about two weeks total, as it was diagnosed as a left groin strain.

Head coach Stephanie White said Clark has meetings with doctors this week, which should give them a better idea on the injury's severity.

"She's gonna see some doctors and get some more tests early in the week," White said. "I don't expect her to be available on Tuesday so we're just going to continue to take it one day at a time."
