England vs. Spain live score: Result, updates, stats as Russo equalises in Euros final
England face Spain with Euro 2025 glory on the line in a re-run of the 2023 Women's World Cup final.
Sarina Wiegman's side are seeking to become the first nation since Germany in 2013 to retain the European title.
If they do so, it will be via an act of sweet revenge over Spain, who beat the Lionesses to be crowned world champions in Sydney.
Both teams were forced into extra time in their semifinals, with Chloe Kelly netting rebound from a late penalty as England downed Italy 2-1. Spain's Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati came to their aid during the additional period, downing a dogged Germany 1-0.

England vs. Spain live updates, highlights, and commentary71 mins: Michelle Agyemang is on her way for England, the goalscorer Russo the player to make way. An attacking change for Spain too as Pina replaces Putellas.
69 mins: Toone finds Kelly, who faints inside and goes outside, driving across goal. Cata Coll gets down to make a fantastic fingertip save. Kelly's corner is cleared.
63 mins: Kelly again down the left to hang up another cross. Hemp can't get this one back into the danger area. Wants a corner, goal kick the signal.
59 mins: A bit of post-goal overexuberance from England as Russo and Bronze are each booked in quick succession for meaty challenges on Batlle and Carmona.
57 mins: GGGGOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLL!!!! Alessia Russo!!!!!
But they don't look too bad going forward. Kelly cuts onto her right foot and delivers a dreamy ball from the left. Russo guides a header home and we're all square.

55 mins: Putellas gets between the lines and fires wide from the edge of the box right-footed. A sense that England are living on their wits a bit at the moment.
52 mins: Again England look defensively ragged as Bronze entirely misjudge a diving header. Hampton grasps Caldentey's shot at the second attempt.
51 mins: Hemp down the Spain left and finds Russo. her shot deflects up into Aleixandri's arm but there'll be no penalty for that.
50 mins: England pushed deep into their own box again. Some soft shoe shuffling from the imperious Bonmati, who shoots into Hampton's chest.
47 mins: Putellas picks out Caltentey, who clips her shot wide. The offside flag goes up in any case.
Kickoff: 2nd Half
Off we go again. Can England find a response?
Halftime
Spain weathered some early England pressure but a back-and-forth contest broke their way when Caldentey opened the scoring. From that point, the world champion imperiously controlled the action. England came from behind to get past Sweden and Italy, but this is a different task entirely.
43 mins: Kelly right into the thick of it, gets Batlle backpedalling and drags a shot past the near post.
41 mins: Castillo heads wide at the near post! Again, it's far too easy down the England left.
40 mins: England are being forced into a change. James is down with what looks like a recurrence of the ankle problem she took into the tournament. On comes Chloe Kelly, who gets a bit longer to produce more heroics today.
34 mins: Feels a bit like Spain are completely into their groove now and turning the screw. Greenwood blocks Castillo's cross but this could be hard work for England from now until halftime.
26 mins: Chance for an instant response from England but Walsh snatches at the shot.
25 mins: GOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLL!!!!!! Mariona Caldentey!!!!!!
Spain hit the front with a nicely crafted goal. Bonmati finds Castillo to slot a pass to the underlapping Batlle. The fullback stands up a cross for Caldentey to power home the header. The fact that it felt a bit like a training ground routine as England missed challenges and Caldentey lost her marker won't unduly please Wiegman.

21 mins: Typically lovely interplay from Spain on the edge of the England box. It ends as Caldentey fires wide, unable to effectively wrap her foot around the shot.
19 mins: Cata Coll gets herself into all sorts of nonsense with an awful pass out from her six-yard box. Hemp intercepts but the Spain goalkeeper recovers with a marvellous save. The corner comes to nought.
14 mins: Smart hold-up play from Russo before Stanway's daisycutter is too close to Coll. The Bayern Munich midfielder is capable of special things from that distance, but not this time.
13 mins: Back come Spain, great tempo to this now. Williamson forced to hack away from the England six yard box.
12 mins: The Lionesses win possession back high up. They're pressing Spain well at the moment. This attack breaks down as Stanway delays her pass a fraction too long and James strays offside.
11 mins: England started well but Spain look to have settled now, with Esther firing wide from Caldentey's cutback.
9 mins: Excellent stop from Hampton. Esther takes a superb first touch after getting in front of Carter but the England goalkeeper reacts to keep out her snapshot.
3 mins: Early chance for England! Russo gets in behind Spain's high line onto the end of a gorgeous pass from Bronze. The Arsenal forward takes it a touch too wide, Coll saves her shot across goal and James can't get to the rebound.
Kickoff: 1st Half
England get us underway and Hampton pumps the ball downfield.
5 mins before kickoff: Here come the teams. And we're into some lovely violin versions of the national anthems. Almost go time.
20 mins before kickoff: Across men's and women's football this is the third time in as many years that England and Spain have met in major international finals. Spain are 2-0 up on that particular head-to-head after their women won the World Cup final 1-0 in 2023 and the men triumphed 2-0 in the Euro 2024 showpiece last summer.

40 mins before kickoff: If Spain don't get the job done here, Montse Tome's decision to bench Pina could be one of those that could come under the microscope. The Barcelona forward has started four of Spain's five games at Euro 2025, only sitting out the group-stage win over Italy when qualification was secured. Here two goals include a game-sealing strike in the 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Switzerland.
1 hour before kickoff: For Spain, there are two changes from the team that started the semifinal against Germany. Laia Aleixandri is back from suspension to replace Maria Mendez at centre-back. Athenea del Castillo comes into the forward line, with Claudia Pina missing out.
1 hr 10 mins before kickoff: The teams are in and Kelly and Agyemang remain in their supersub roles for England. Jess Carter returns in the back four after Esme Morgan was preferred for the semifinal. It means Alex Greenwood will revert to her familiar position alongside captain Leah Williamson at centre-back. Greenwood and Williamson's ability on the ball could be key, with Spain expected to press holding midfielder Kiera Walsh hard.

1 hr 35 mins before kickoff: Confirmed team news will be with us shortly. The big question around the England team is whether Chloe Kelly or Michelle Agyemang will be rewarded with a start. The forward duo have come off the bench to make decisive impacts in the quarter and semifinals, but Sarina Wiegman is noted for her commitment to sticking with a familiar starting lineup. She resisted similar clamour to start Alessia Russo and Ella Toone at Euro 2022, two starting players who are arguably under threat from Kelly and Agyemang here.

2 hours before kickoff. Hello and welcome to The Sporting News' live coverage of the Women's Euro 2025 final between England and Spain. Can the Lionesses make it back-to-back Euros triumphs or will Sarina Wiegman's side come up short against La Roja, as they did in the 2023 World Cup final?

Despite being a mixed campaign, the Lionesses have shown their ferocity and determination again and again, as well as the power of their squad. Nineteen-year-old Agyemang has turned heads as a force that has consistently turned the tide for England, scoring crucial goals in the knockout stage. Chloe Kelly, another of Sarina Wiegman's supersubs, scored the latest goal in a women's Euros match with her winner against Italy, and the pair have proved how efficiently England can turn things around on the pitch.
Nevertheless, both Kelly and Agyemang remain among the substitutes, with Jess Carter replacing Esme Morgan in the back four the only change from the semifinal win over Italy. It means Alex Greenwood will revert to centre-back alongside captain Leah Williamson.
Goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has also consistently impressed throughout the competition as Mary Earps' successor and is sure to be put to the test on Sunday given Spain's attacking prowess.
England (4-2-3-1, right to left): Hampton (GK) — Bronze, Williamson, Greenwood, Carter — Stanway, Walsh— James, Toone Hemp — Russo
World champions Spain have been moving from strength to strength in recent years, and their progress in the Euros has been no exception. Having won all of their matches, their lethal attack and technical quality has meant they have asserted their dominance throughout.
Their star-studded squad includes the sport's golden girl, two-time Ballon d'Or winner Aitana Bonmati and the legendary Barcelona midfielder Alexia Putellas, who is widely regarded as one of the best women's footballers ever.
Head coach Montse Tome makes two changes from the team that started the semifinal against Germany. Laia Aleixandri is back from suspension and replaces Maria Mendez at centre-back. Athenea del Castillo is preferred to Claudia Pina in attack.
