Cardinals' Oli Marmol announced major change in lineup

The St. Louis Cardinals are in the middle of a six-game losing streak, and the fanbase was starting to get impatient. Manager Oli Marmol is loyal to his players, which is part of the reason why he received the job, but it can be a detriment when he refuses to make changes to the lineup. The fans were waiting for him to get off his hands and make a switch, and it'll come in Saturday afternoon's game against the rival Milwaukee Brewers.

John Denton reports that Marmol will make a change at the top of the lineup, with Lars Nootbar struggling recently and the task of facing a lefty in Jose Quintana. Nootbar is batting .222 against lefties this season, with just two home runs and four RBIs in 115 plate appearances. He has also struck out 27 times.

Nootbar played in five of the six games on the losing streak, and he has no hits in 23 at-bats. Marmol didn't disclose whether the fan-favorite outfielder will be moved down the lineup or sit on the bench, but he needs to straighten out whatever is plaguing him.

The unfortunate thing for Marmol is that all of his outfielders struggle to hit the ball against lefty pitching. Nootbar has the best average among all outfielders on the current roster. While there aren't many natural top-of-the-lineup bats who hit well against lefties for the Cardinals, Yohel Pozo, the backup catcher, is the best, batting .375 in a limited sample size of 16 at-bats.
