Buccaneers roster features NFL's heaviest and lightest player, and they're 310 pounds apart
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a unique mark in NFL history by acquiring the league's heaviest and lightest players in a short span. During the final round of the NFL Draft, they picked Tez Johnson, a 154-pound wide receiver from Oregon, and later signed Desmond Watson, a 464-pound player from Florida, through undrafted free agency. This 310-pound weight difference is particularly noteworthy as Johnson's weight tripled is still less than Watson's. Both players face the challenge of making the Buccaneers' roster, where their contrasting physiques could contribute uniquely to the team's success. Proving their worth in their respective roles will be essential for their continued presence in the NFL, regardless of their weight disparities.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made NFL history by acquiring Tez Johnson, a 154-pound wide receiver, and Desmond Watson, a 464-pound player, highlighting a stark 310-pound weight difference.
Tez Johnson, known for his time as a star wide receiver at Oregon, faces uncertainty about his longevity in the NFL due to his small stature.
Desmond Watson, if he plays in a regular-season game, would become the heaviest player to have appeared in an NFL game, weighing three times as much as Johnson.
Both players aim to secure spots on the Buccaneers' roster, where they must demonstrate the value of their unique physical attributes to the team's success.
Their ability to contribute effectively in their respective positions will determine their future with the Buccaneers, emphasizing that success in football requires diverse skill sets and body types.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers made quite the NFL history in less than an hour on Saturday.
First, at the tail end of the seventh and final round of the NFL Draft, they selected Tez Johnson out of Oregon.
Then, in undrafted free agency, they signed Desmond Watson from Florida.
Why's that significant? Because Golden weighs 154 pounds, and Watson weighs 464.
Johnson was a star wide receiver at Oregon, but he's so small that it's no sure thing he can last in the NFL.
Watson would be the heaviest player to ever appear in an NFL game if he makes it on the field in the regular season.

How insane is this difference?
If you multiply Johnson's weight by three, you get 462 pounds, still two pounds lighter than Watson. The big fella is literally three Johnsons in one.
Football is a fascinating sport in that both these guys can have a legitimate role for the Buccaneers.
Clearly, they won't contribute in the same ways. But it takes everyone on the roster to win football games.
The first goal for both Johnson and Watson will be to make the roster.
If they do, then they'll try to show how they, in their individual roles, can be crucial to Tampa Bay's chances of success. If they do that, they'll stick around, regardless of weight.
