Adam Silver announces shocking details regarding Lakers' Luka Dončić trade
The Los Angeles Lakers pulled the trigger on one of the most historic trades in NBA history this past season.
Sending big man Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for generational point guard Luka Dončić.
Commissioner of the NBA, Adam Silver, recently announced on the Club520 podcast hosted by former All-Star Jeff Teague, shocking details about the blockbuster move.
“One of the misnomers out there is that I have the power to disapprove a trade… I don’t,” Silver said Monday.
“What happens is before the trade is known publicly, it gets called into the league office. Both teams have to get on the phone. Lawyers and people in basketball operations literally line up the contract.”
“Luka is a good example where the teams are very secretive, they're not necessarily tipping us off. We had heard about it before the public, but it was only a matter of hours.

Silver goes into detail about the surprise factor when learning that Dončić was being traded, because he wasn’t a player involved in trade talks.
During his 28 games with the Lakers he has averaged a little over 28 points a game as well as eight rebounds and seven and a half assists.
Oftentimes, fans believe the commissioner of the league would be the only individual with the power to decline a trade, but Silver puts that question to rest.
