Aaron Rodgers officially signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, bringing one of the NFL’s most iconic players to one of its most iconic franchises. But don’t expect to see Rodgers in his famous No. 12 jersey, that number is staying in the past. Instead, the four-time MVP will continue rocking No. 8, just as he did with the New York Jets.

Rodgers wore No. 12 for nearly two decades with the Green Bay Packers, but since leaving Lambeau, he’s leaned into his roots. The Jets had already retired No. 12 to honor Broadway Joe Namath, and while the Steelers haven’t officially retired Terry Bradshaw’s number, it’s been untouched since the Hall of Famer’s retirement, and understandably so. 

So once again, it’s No. 8 for Rodgers, the same number he wore at Cal during his college days.

It’s got history, meaning, and now, a new chapter in black and gold.
