President Trump announced that Mike Waltz, the former national security advisor, has been appointed as the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, an upgrade rather than a resignation from his previous position.

Trump expressed confidence in Waltz, stating that he had not lost faith in him and believes Waltz will excel in his new role at the U.N., which he considers a higher position.

During a press briefing on Air Force One, Trump addressed questions about trade deals, indicating that negotiations are ongoing with many countries, including China, and asserting his approach to setting tariffs unilaterally.

The President confirmed he offered to send U.S. troops to Mexico to combat drug cartels, emphasizing the severity of the cartel threat due to their involvement in drug trafficking, particularly fentanyl, which has resulted in significant fatalities in the U.S.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum declined Trump's offer for military assistance, reportedly due to fear of the cartels, which Trump described as a major challenge to both countries.

Stephen Miller, the White House deputy chief of staff, is among the individuals being considered for the national security advisor role, with Trump acknowledging Miller's influential role in the administration.

Trump reiterated his stance on trade, emphasizing the financial losses under previous administrations and highlighting his negotiations as a means to rectify these imbalances by setting his own terms for trade deals.
