A tragic collision occurred between a recreational boat and a Clearwater ferry, resulting in one fatality and ten injuries. The boat driver, Jeff Knight, through his attorney, disputes allegations of fleeing the scene, asserting that he remained to assist until emergency responders arrived. Knight's lawyer claims the ferry lacked proper lighting, contributing to the accident, and multiple witnesses corroborate Knight's account of providing aid. Despite initial reports from Clearwater police, Florida Fish and Wildlife officials confirm the boat stayed on-site for some time. The family of the deceased, Jose Castro, demands justice, questioning the lack of charges or arrests in the ongoing investigation.

The collision occurred near Clearwater, Florida, involving a ferry transporting passengers from a sand and sculpting competition and a recreational boat, resulting in one death and ten injuries.

Jeff Knight, the boat driver, claims through his attorney that he did not flee but remained to assist, directing a passenger to call 911 and coordinating safety measures like instructing passengers to wear life jackets.

Knight's attorney argues that the ferry was inadequately lit at the time of the crash and suggests that distractions from dolphins in the area may have contributed to the accident.

Clearwater police initially reported the boat fled the scene, but Florida Fish and Wildlife officials confirmed the boat remained temporarily, and Knight voluntarily passed a breathalyzer test showing no alcohol involvement.

Witnesses, including a ferry crew member and the ferry captain, have reportedly supported Knight's account of his assistance during the incident, which included stabilizing the ferry and offering to transport injured passengers.

The victim, Jose Castro, was a resident of Palm Harbor, and his family is seeking answers and justice, expressing frustration at the absence of legal actions taken so far.

The investigation by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Coast Guard is ongoing, with calls to preserve critical evidence like tracking data and surveillance footage.
