Russell Wilson Reacts to New York Giants Drafting a Quarterback in First Round of NFL Draft, Presumed to Be His Successor
Russell Wilson, a veteran quarterback recently signed by the New York Giants for the 2025-2026 season, responded positively to the team drafting Ole' Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart in the first round of the NFL Draft. Despite the common expectation that a first-round quarterback is likely to play soon, Wilson showed no signs of distress or competition, instead offering congratulations to the new additions via social media. The Giants initially selected defensive star Abdul Carter but made a strategic move to trade back into the first round to acquire Dart. There is speculation that Dart may spend the season learning from Wilson and backup Jameis Winston, but a change could occur if Wilson struggles. Wilson's supportive stance suggests a collaborative approach to team dynamics rather than rivalry with the newcomer.
Russell Wilson was signed by the New York Giants as their starting quarterback for the 2025-2026 season, despite the team drafting a young quarterback, Jaxson Dart, which often signals a future transition.
The Giants made a strategic decision during the NFL Draft by first selecting defensive player Abdul Carter and later trading back into the first round to acquire Jaxson Dart, a 21-year-old quarterback from Ole' Miss.
There is a possibility that Jaxson Dart will spend the upcoming season learning from both Russell Wilson and backup quarterback Jameis Winston, although performance issues by Wilson could accelerate Dart's debut.
Russell Wilson expressed no animosity towards the new draft picks, instead publicly congratulating them via social media, reflecting a supportive team environment.
Wilson's approach and reaction indicate an emphasis on mentorship and teamwork, rather than viewing the new quarterback as immediate competition for his starting role.

Russell Wilson is reacting to the New York Giants adding a quarterback to the QB room in the first round of the NFL Draft.
If you don’t know, Russell is a veteran quarterback (and he’s married to Ciara!) He was signed by the Giants this offseason to be their starting QB in the 2025-2026 season.
However, when a team drafts a quarterback in the first round, it’s presumed that that young athlete will be playing sooner rather than later.
During the first round of the 2025 Draft on Thursday (April 24), the Giants used their first pick on defensive star Abdul Carter, but then traded back into the first round later in the evening to select Ole’ Miss QB Jaxson Dart, 21.
There’s some thought that the Jaxson could sit on the bench and learn from Russell and backup Jameis Winston for the full season, but if Russell is for some reason struggling…there could be a QB change.
However, Russell sent a super supportive message to the Giants’ two newest players, showing there’s no animosity or competition from him at this time!
