Some good news: Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been greenlit for a 28th season at NBC!

SVU stars Mariska Hargitay as the fan favorite Captain Olivia “Liv” Benson.

And in a surprise, Deadline is reporting that this renewal is actually not new information for the cast. Apparently, when the show was renewed last year, it was given a two-season order. But we’re just learning about this now. The site also reports that Michele Fazekas is expected back as showrunner.

However, within the report about SVU‘s renewal was also an update about a few other NBC programs.

Stumble, The Hunting Party, Brilliant Minds, and the flagship Law & Order show are apparently all considered “on the bubble” at this time. It’s thought that there may not be decisions on these shows until it gets closer to the NBC Fall schedule presentation, slated for May 11.

Already this year, NBC and NBCUniversal have canceled 5 TV shows, while thankfully renewing several fan favorites.
