Joe Jonas Talks 'Heart By Heart' Bridge & Deciding to Release New Solo Music
Joe Jonas, at 35, has released a new solo single 'Heart By Heart', which has been well-received, particularly the bridge segment. The song, written by Savan Kotecha and Lewis Capaldi, was recorded last year after some tweaks and positioned as a key track on Jonas's upcoming second solo album. Jonas reflects on the meticulous process of perfecting the bridge with the Max Martin team, emphasizing the quick but emotional connection he felt with the song. This release marks a significant return to solo work for Jonas, almost 14 years after his first album, 'Fastlife', highlighting his personal growth and desire to express his own voice distinct from his work with the Jonas Brothers and DNCE. His new album, 'Music For People Who Believe In Love', is set for release in May and is available for pre-order.
Joe Jonas's new single 'Heart By Heart' is gaining attention for its compelling bridge, and it marks his return to solo music after 14 years since 'Fastlife'.
The song was initially pitched to Jonas by Savan Kotecha and Lewis Capaldi, and although he did not write it, Jonas felt a strong connection to its messaging, leading to some personal tweaks and a recording session last year.
The process of perfecting the bridge involved collaboration with the Max Martin team, who provided constructive feedback, making sure every element of the song met high standards.
Jonas describes the emotional ease with which he connected to the song, despite the technical challenges, noting that the recording and mixing process was relatively swift.
The decision to release new solo work stems from Jonas's current confidence and self-awareness, allowing him to express personal stories and emotions distinct from his group projects.
He notes that his new music is deeply personal, reflecting his life experiences and distinguishing itself from his previous work with the Jonas Brothers and DNCE.
The upcoming album 'Music For People Who Believe In Love', set to release in May, is available for pre-order across major platforms like Target, Amazon Music, and iTunes/Apple Music.

Joe Jonas is opening up about his new single “Heart By Heart“!
The 35-year-old Jonas Brothers singer dropped his latest solo tune on Friday (April 25), and many fans have been raving about the bridge of the song.
“Holdin’ you tight in the back of your car / Know that we tried, but we didn’t get far
I’m sorry, so sorry / Well you gotta leave town and you gotta live your life / Baby, don’t forget you can call me anytime / You’re lonely, so lonely,” he sings in the track, which will be featured on his upcoming second solo album.
In a new interview, Joe opened up about the writing process for the song (he didn’t write it!) and nailing that now beloved bridge.

“['Heart By Heart'] was actually pitched to me [by] Savan Kotecha. He wrote it with Lewis Capaldi, and I just loved the messaging behind it. I really felt connected to it, so we did some tweaks, and I recorded it last year around the summer or fall,” Joe dished to Billboard. “We held onto the song for a while. It felt like the song I really wanted to be the next single of my album, so I’m positioning it in a way where it speaks to where I’m at in my life and the emotional side of where I’m at. I’ve teased it long enough, so I’m eager for people to hear it.”
On nailing the bridge, Joe shared, “Savan and the whole Max Martin team are brilliant because they will be very particular about what they want, and that’s always really encouraging. They’ll hear something and be like, ‘Eh, the diction on this word, etc.’”
“[The song] took a few takes, but ultimately, when you connect with anything, it falls together quite quickly,” he continued. “For me, I thought it was pretty natural to get into the song emotionally. The bridge [took] a few takes, but honestly, the song itself happened quite fast – all the mixing and that.”
It’s been nearly 14 years since Joe‘s first solo album Fastlife, and he also spoke to why now was the time for a new solo effort.
“It’s been a minute since I’ve released anything [solo]. The last album that I did by myself, I’m very proud of. There were a lot of cooks in the kitchen at that time in my life. I was surrounded by a lot of people that I just said, ‘Yes, and’ to,” he said. “Now, knowing who I am, feeling confident, and looking at my life, I’m so grateful for the friends and family I have around me. And I get to do it again 20-something years later, and find creative ways to speak to what I’ve been through. I know the difference of when it’s a [Jonas] Brothers song or a DNCE song; the music I’ve been making felt really personal. And I selfishly didn’t want to share it with other people. This needed to come from my voice in particular.”
