Jeremy Renner revealed that there will be no second season of the Marvel series 'Hawkeye' primarily due to a significant pay cut proposed by Disney, offering him half of his original salary for the same amount of work. Renner expressed his disappointment at the offer and speculated that the reduced pay could be linked to his 2023 snowmobile accident, implying that Disney accountants, not Marvel, were behind the decision. Despite his love for the character and willingness to continue, he felt compelled to defend his worth, insisting only on the same pay as the first season. The actor mentioned that while he is disheartened by the outcome, he is content to move on, suggesting that the physical demands of the role might not be in his best interest post-accident. The first season of 'Hawkeye' premiered on Disney+ in late 2021, and Renner's recent insights are also documented in his new book 'My Next Breath'.

Jeremy Renner Reveals the Real Reason There's No 'Hawkeye' Season 2 (& It Has to Do With Salary!)

Jeremy Renner was offered half of his salary from the first season for the second season of 'Hawkeye', which he found unacceptable, considering the effort and time required for production.

He suggested that the proposed salary cut might be due to his near-fatal snowmobile accident in 2023, questioning if Disney perceived him as less capable post-accident.

Renner clarified that the decision was driven by Disney's accountants rather than Marvel, indicating a financial decision rather than a creative one.

Despite his fondness for the Hawkeye character, Renner felt the need to stand up for himself, refusing the offer as he believed it was an insult to his professional value.

While he remains disappointed by the lack of a second season, Renner is at peace with the decision, contemplating that the physical demands of the role might not be beneficial for him after his accident.

The first season of 'Hawkeye' was released on Disney+ in late 2021, with Renner playing the lead role of Clint Barton.

Renner's experiences and thoughts on the decision, along with his accident, are detailed in his book 'My Next Breath', providing further insights into his personal and professional life.

Jeremy Renner is opening up about Hawkeye.

In a new interview with High Performance the 54-year-old actor, who plays Clint Barton in the Marvel series, revealed he was offered “half” of his salary from the first season of the Disney+ series.

“They asked me to do Season 2, and they offered me half the money. I’m like, ‘Well, it’s going to take me twice the amount of work for half the amount of money, and eight months of my time, essentially, to do it for half the amount,’” he explained.

He went on to suggest that the proposed lower salary was because of his near-fatal 2023 snowmobile accident.

“I’m like, ‘I’m sorry? Why? Did you think I’m only half the Jeremy because I got ran over? Maybe that’s why you want to pay me half of what I made on the first season.’”

“This is not Marvel, mind you. This is like, just Disney, not even really Disney. It’s just the penny pinchers, the accountants. I told them to go fly a kite. I mean, just at the at the insult offer. So we didn’t see eye to eye on it,” he went on.

“Sadly, I still love the character. I’d still love to do it, but I I had to defend myself. I didn’t ask for any more money, mind you. Just pay me what I made made the first season. So it’s all disheartening that that didn’t happen, but that’s fine. I’m happy to let that go, because my body’s probably thanking me, time and time again, that I’m not doing it right now. But we’ll see.”

The first season debuted on Disney+ in late 2021.
