Florian Zeller crafted the film specifically for Bardem and Cruz, aiming to utilize their real-life marriage to add authenticity to the portrayal of emotional and moral challenges.

Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz are teaming up for a new movie!

It has been announced that the married couple, who are both Oscar winners, will be playing husband and wife in the psychological thriller Bunker written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Florian Zeller.

In the movie, “when an architect accepts a morally ambiguous project — building a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire — his wife begins to question their marriage after 17 years together. The film is described as ‘a thriller that delves into the emotional and moral challenges a couple faces amid the tensions of the world around them, exploring the fears, doubts, and dilemmas that define our era,’” according to Deadline.

Keep reading to find out more…Florian wrote the project specifically for Javier, 56, and Penelope, 51, who themselves have been married for nearly 15 years.

“I wanted to tell the story of a marriage and was deeply compelled to work with a real-life couple,” Florian shared in a statement. “I immediately was drawn to the idea of working with Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, two of the most gifted actors working today, who also happen to be one of the most iconic couples. I wrote Bunker for them. This film will push the boundaries of narrative and emotional truth, blurring the lines between reality and fiction in a way that feels thrilling and deeply human.”

Penelope and Javier first met on set of 1992′s Jamón jamón. They started dating in 2007 after reuniting for Vicky Cristina Barcelona and also appeared together on screen in 2013′s The Counselor and 2018′s Everybody Knows.

In an interview from last year, Penelope shared some rare comments about her and Javier‘s two children.
