THUNDERBOLTS MID-CREDITS SCENE SPOILERS
Finally realizing a dream come true, Alexei Shostakov aka Red Guardian (played by Stranger Things‘ David Harbour), is in civilian attire at a supermarket perusing the cereal aisle. At a passing female shopper, Alexei directs her attention to a box of Wheaties cereal featuring “The New Avengers” which has the Thunderbolts team plastered on the cover. (For context, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine cleverly rebrands the Thunderbolts at the end of the film as “The New Avengers.”)
Alexei hilariously encourages the shopper to take the box of Wheaties holding it close to his face in hopes the shopper will recognize that he’s the Red Guardian. She doesn’t but does end up taking the box. The scene ends with the shopper walking away with her cart, and then surreptitiously removes it from her cart and leaves it in the aisle before turning the corner.
THUNDERBOLTS END CREDITS SCENE SPOILERS
It’s 14 months since the end of the film, and we see “The New Avengers” at Avengers headquarters discussing how Sam Wilson will not recognize them as “The Avengers” even going as far as noting that he legally protected the name. The team bemoans how there is public debate on who the real Avengers are. There’s a funny interaction where Alexei (Red Guardian) has an idea to rebrand as “The Avengerz” while wearing a ridiculous colorful tracksuit with the new moniker. There’s even mention that Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier tried talking to Sam Wilson (Captain America) to no avail. There’s a brief reference to Bob (aka Sentry) who is sitting at the window reading a book, how he refuses to fly or use his powers for fear that “the other guy” will show up. Suddenly their discussion is interrupted by an announcement saying an unidentified craft has entered orbit.
The announcement goes further in saying it’s an “extra-dimensional” ship. Yelena zooms in on her digital pad and it’s the pointy space ship with the Fantastic Four logo plastered on the side.
The film ends with white text on a black background saying “The New Avengers & Bob will return.”
